J. Colby – Playing the Lines

Playing the Lines - J. Colby

Reviewer: Stephen

Genre: M/M Contemporary

More of a short story than a novella, this is the tale of an insecure photographer who is asked out by a flirtatious and heteroflexible model. It's clear that the photographer has trust issues and that the model is as cocky as one might expect but the two might make a charming couple in time.

Problem is that there really isn't a whole lot of time here in this under an hour read. It's pleasant but not unmissable. There are no life altering epiphanies, no mind-blowing sex, no unforgettable characters, not even any tear worthy moments. It's fine as a short story but if I'd spent 2.99 for this 39 page tale I'd have felt a bit cheated.

The tale is well crafted and free from any glaring grammar, spelling or storytelling errors that make it annoying, but there's just not really enough here to make it endearing.
